Convergence Research for a Healthier World
Welcome to the College of Health Science homepage.
As of the 21st Century, the health environment around us is demanding new challenges that we have never seen before. Unlike in the last century, problems are threatening our health in the form of urbanization, population aging, destruction and deletion of natural ecology, and climate change accompanied by globalization. Moreover, their impact extends beyond the local level to the national and international level. At the same time, with the advent of the 4th industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence and big data enable us to understand our bodies and diseases in multi-layered, multifaceted connections between causes, which have remained only in theory and imagination. Therefore, health science in the 21st century is experiencing both new challenges and opportunities, and it is an essential field for our society to achieve sustainable development.
Recent major health problems include chronic diseases such as cancer and obesity, climate change, and environmental pollutions represented by air pollution and particulate matter. One nature of these health problems is that high-level scientific tools are required for recognizing and identifying the problem or its causes. Also in order to solve the problem, we need to look beyond the regional community where it happened, at the national or international level. Therefore, achieving the common goal of “resolving the health problems of our community” requires and integrated knowledge ranging from understanding life sciences to law, institutions, and international relations.
As a leading college providing for the present and the future, Korea University College of Health Science has already been equipped with the infrastructure for trans-disciplinary education and research. It is a perfect place for students with integrated and creative talents that are essential for the 21st century. Our college has already been confirmed to be a world-class educational institution as a cradle of global health science beyond the individuals and communities. Future-oriented academic programs such as promoting student-designed majors, establishing interdisciplinary courses, and encouraging combined bachelor & master program for the development of creative convergence talents are also in line with “human-centered Korea University, HumanKU” which Korea University is aiming for.
We, College of health Science at Korea University, which leads innovations in education and research suitable to the health environment of the 21st century, will become one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
